Andreas Lie

Artist research

Andreas Lie, born and raised in Norway, expresses his deep passion for nature through photography. His series of photos “Norwegian woods” has gained him a large worldwide audience. This series of photos has been digitally combined and shows silhouettes of animals in their natural environment.

Despite his most popular subject being animals, Andreas has used human portraits in his experiments. Whilst being a fine art photographer, Andreas also conveys a political message through his work. Naturally, being a nature enthusiast, Andreas is anti-global warming and sends a message by combining photos of animals with factories and flames to show how these issues are destroying their homes.

Andreas is a self-taught photographer/artist, having never gone to school for art. He has previous experience in graphic design but he is not qualified in it. The purpose of Andreas’ work is not only to show off animals in their beautiful habitats, but to encourage others to take care of nature and become aware of environmental issues. His Norwegian environment he says has inspired him to create and is his source of inspiration.

One of the things i was really impressed by with Andreas’ work is just how authentic and real everything seems. His photos are obviously not part of the natural world and are digitally created but Andreas takes time to blend trees and foliage into the fur of the animals seamlessly and that is really impressive.

I hope to implement what Andreas has done in his photos with mine in the future. Giving the blended images a directly correlating meaning so that the image becomes more powerful and doesn’t contrast ideas.
